Horror Kitsch Bitch: B-Day Reflections (and a pretty sunflower)

B-Day Reflections (and a pretty sunflower)

Tomorrow is my birthday. I'll be 26, it's not a big one. Yet, strangely, it feels like a big one.

Is this where I thought i'd be in my life at the age of 26? Heck no! Is this a bad thing? Umm... I used to say yes, but lately i've been thinking perhaps no.

Here's a sunflower that's opening in my garden.
Because it's symbolic, and also just cos it's pretty...

I'm the type of person who always has to have “a plan”. And it's usually a long term plan, with all the benchmarks along the way. But in the last couple of years i've been focusing more on just the immediate future, with a maximum of a one-year plan. And i'm finding that's been working really well. On a day-to-day basis, I love my life. A lot.

Recently I was going through a draw and I found a “26 Things To Do Before I'm 26” list. I wrote it around my birthday last year, put it away and I haven't come across it since. But it's funny, i've done nearly everything on that list. Upon reflection, the couple of things I haven't done are mostly because they were “list fillers”. The kinds of things I would LIKE to do to increase my knowledge of and exposure to certain things. But that just aren't real life-changers.

Wanna see my list? That's not a euphemism, it's an actual list...

26 Things to do before i'm 26...
in no particular order

        1. start a creative, expressive blog  (hello, dear reader)
        2. keep a personal journal (I think blogging will be that)
        3. do a solo body acceptance photo shoot (heck yes! must share photos on here)
        4. set up a sewing & writing space
        5. get a chest of drawers & organise my clothes
        6. get rid of the warts on my foot (TMI. But they're gone!)
        7. get my computer fixed before applecare runs out
        8. pay off my credit card (I'm possibly most proud of this - debt totally blows)
        9. implement pilates into my regular routine (meep, no...)
        10. ask a boy out on a date (epic fail. but still, I did it!)
        11. get my lady issues sorted (again, TMI. But yep, nearly all sorted)
        12. visit an ostepath at least 4 times
        13. go to the dentist
        14. create a piece de resistance dress/outfit for myself (bit bummed I didn't do this one. But I did make some KILLER costumes this year)
        15. explore 12 director/actors
        16. become familiar with 6 musicals
        17. release a Zombie Scooter Club EP (no, but we have a new band member and I feel things are moving along swimmingly)
        18. visit Townsville
        19. book an overseas adventure (I booked and WENT to Burma! Photos soon)
        20. write to an inspirational person (YES! I wrote Tess Munster. And she wrote back! *swoon*)
        21. start sculpting
        22. work with resin
        23. reflect and write a small something on each book read
        24. have photos recovered off ext. hard drive
        25. carry a notebook with me and make jots (well, kind of. I bought a small notepad, but I still just mostly use my phone for notes)
        26. try a new recipe at least once a fortnight (not strictly, but I have been trying new recipes sporadically).

17.5 out of 26! This year, I don't think i'll force myself to write a “27 Before 27” list. I think i'll just make a list of my priorities (with maybe a few specifics), and keep working towards those.

What do you guys think? Do you do birthday resolutions?
