Brags, and a Fatkini, and Bye-Bye for Two Weeks!

Sadly, this might be my last blog post for a couple of weeks. I'm going back to visit my mum and to go to the Byron Bay Bluesfest (!!), and I have to tether internet through my phone and it's usually pretty crappy reception in the hills. Boooooo. I will miss my little blog-a-log! But on the plus side, (I totally just wrote plus size – ha! freudian slip), I will have sooooo many exciting things to share when I get back. AND, i'm sure i'll still be Instagramming like a fiend, so if we're not IG pals – let's make it happen! I'm HERE.

Firstly, I just wanted to brag (modestly, of course) about two things.

First one is: I just ordered some stuff from Candy Strike!! I'm very naughty, but I just CANNOT help myself. Mwa ha haaaaa.

Second one is: I am one of the Nearsighted Owl's Fat Babes! And I couldn't be more stoked with how I (we) turned out. Gomez is particularly chuffed that he got a look in, and that, in this case, the 'camera' LOST 5 pounds! What a svelte little boy :)

The last thing I wanted to share is something i've been meaning to for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Tomorrow, I will be on the beach in my fatkini, and it will be my second holiday back home in which I get a chance to wear it. The last one was over the Christmas/Summer break, and a photographer friend asked if i'd like to do a shoot in it. And that was FRICKEN scary. So I said yes. And here they are.

Please note, although some of the colours and contrast have been altered, these photos have in no other way been modified. All stretch marks, cellulite, flabs and rolls are exactly as they are in real life.

The experience itself was all the things I expected it to be; exciting, scary, liberating, exposing. But to really top it all off, Eve (Tree Faerie) has been making a website called thetriggerwarning.com in which she interviews people about their real life experiences. So after the photo session, she asked if she could do a video interview with me. WELL, that was the scary part. The first time i've ever had to talk about all this body postivity stuff, at length, with conviction, and WITHOUT being drunk! Sheesh. Here's the video. You can see my nerves. Eve did a beautiful job, and I can't thank her enough for the experience.

This week has been riDONKulous! I feel like i've been running so hard, and getting nowhere. I definitely overextended myself socially, given it was the week before mid-semester study break and EVERYTHING was due. But hey, fun times were most definitely had.

This week was Melbourne Design Week, and since Sam and I are too impoverished to go to the actual conference, we decided to check out the free thing – the “Design Garden”. I tell you, Melbourne does some truly excelsior free events, but this was not one of them. There was nothing there but some fancy (albeit cool) painted grass, some comfortable bean bag chairs, and a big screen with advertising on it! I seized the opportunity to be a green-clad derp monster, and go nuts with the green green grass! Perfectly fitting for this week's Aussie Curves challenge – GREEN! I'm so surprised how many of the other bloggers say they don't like/don't happen to wear it. Green and purple are my two FAVOURITEST colours! If only I still had my green dreads >.<

I jumped up on the aforementioned stage in front of the aforementioned advertising screen, and Sam and I played a fun game. He just described what was happening behind me, and I vogued accordingly.

If we're instagram friends, you'll probably know that Sam and I also saw East End Cabaret at the Spiegeltent on Thursday night, as part of the Comedy Festival. Oh my god you guys, there were tears and a near bladder-control issue. They are AMAZING!! Seriously, do yourselves a favour and just GO SEE THEM before they end. Oh wait, I just looked it up, it's tomorrow night. GO QUICKLY!! Tickets HERE.

Alright, i'm going to quietly back out of the room so I can sort through my photos and write about last weekend! I'm so behind the eight-ball. I mentioned it was a crazy week, yah?  

Birthday Bouncing Boobs!

Well, it's officially not my birthday anymore. But BOY what a day it was! After uni, we went to an AMAZING place called “Bounce” - it's basically just an indoor centre with uber-bouncy trampolines everywhere. I had to wear 2 sports bras, but it was so worth it.

Now I know what you're thinking... “what is she doing writing a blog post at 12.40am? Shouldn't she be smashed?” Well, yes. Yes I should be. But I'm not drunk because i'm getting up early for a friend's wedding. But before I go, here's my birthday suit!

Sam and I got our “nature” on and had a charming picnic on a strip of grass next to the big church in the city. 'Twas lush.

I am in no way fashionable, but by gosh I am working hard to make 'Crazy Cat Lady Chic' stylish.

I did not steal this hat from a homeless person.

In summary, the best things that happened today were; DRESS. And a gift from Samopust:

I also got another dress in the same package, and i'm pretty excited about it too. Hold your breath, now! :P

Such a Tart(an)

This isn't a particularly spesh OOTD, but it happened because I have a photography class this semester. So me and my pal Sam got our paws on a nifty camera from uni, and went on an adventure to eat steamed vegetarian dumplings and take cliché Melbourne alley photos. We still suck. One of these is even blurry. But they were the least blurry of them all. But hey, we're learning!

The boots are Docs, which i'm normally not a fan of because the toes are too round - I like my shoes more squared (like a witch). BUT (cute story)... one morning I heard someone rustling around in the outskirts of my room. I blearily opened my eyes to see my housemate (and bestie, and band mate) holding up my standard everyday boots. I couldn't really see what he was doing, but he told me he was just checking my size. I didn't think much of it and went back to sleep. When I woke up, there was magically a brand new pair of Docs sitting in my doorway. Turns out he was walking to the bus stop and saw one of the neighbours have a garage sale. He saw the boots and thought I would like them, so he bought them for me. What a sweetie! Now I have Docs, and you know what? I'm kind of used to the weird (to me) shape, now.

Yeah, so my earrings are chillies. What of it? One of my besties got them for me somewhere in Europe, and I adore them. One of the best things is, no matter the weather I can always justify wearing them. If it's summer I say to myself "better wear my chillies cos it's so HOT today!" And then when it's winter, I say "better wear my chillies cos i'm so CHILLY today!" Yeah. Uh huh.

New blog design, new domain, new semester = I'M ON THE BLOG WAGON.

Let's kick off with an OOTD, shall we?

I freakin' worship this cute little pinafore. I was in Thailand last year and found a shop that is basically the fat girl's holy grail. It was a shop for plus-size women (beyond rare in South-East Asia), and it had an amazingly hilarious name that I can't remember. Something like “Jumbo Designs”. Anyway, the clothes were REALLY expensive by Thai standards, but fairly cheap in western prices (average around $30 a dress). The woman who owned it was an absolute gem, and her elderly mum was so damn adorable and helpful (though couldn't speak a word of English). I bought so many clothes I think I must've kept them in business for at least a year!

One of the best things about these clothes is the brand label – FIT FAT – and their sizes are in F's (for, one can only assume, “fat”). F is the smallest, FF is the next biggest and so on. I LOVE it!

My aunty gave me these boots last year, and although they're really comfortable, I sometimes get a bit self-conscious wearing them. They're kind of stripper boots. But you know what? FUCK THAT NOISE. They look smokin', and maybe I AM a stripper. What's it to you?!

This t-shirt (though you can't really see it) is from the Fantastic Asia Film Festival which is now known as Monster Fest – a Melbourne horror film festival held annually.

I also got these earrings from Thailand, from a jewellery maker at the weekend markets. They are little zombies. Too ADORBS! <3

This necklace usually has a skull hanging from the bone, but it came off and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Lucky it still looks cute!

General Whathaps

I've had 2 people in 2 days ask me if i've lost weight, and it got me thinking: a year ago, I would have taken that as SUCH a compliment. Now, it's left me with really mixed feelings that i'm having trouble putting my finger on. “No, I haven't”, I reply. Then I hold my tongue when what I want to add is “and I haven't been trying to, because I don't feel the need. And if you're detecting an extra quality of 'attractiveness', perhaps it's increased confidence?”.

Which ties in with this incident:

Last week, I posted on Facebook that I had bought a bikini, and the response I got was a little overwhelming. People I don't even usually have communications with were liking and commenting, and it surprised me to notice that I had these feelings:

1. Honoured that people were taking the time to support me doing something brave and scary

2. Sad that it was so obviously considered "brave and scary" by so many people. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's considered brave and scary by ME. But the response I got reiterated the fact that our society inherentely does not consider people outside of a certain mould, entitled to wear and behave what and how they want.

But i'm feeling a change, so it's definitely happening. So excited for what's to come and that arena!

Speaking of bikinis, I ended up getting an email from the Customer Service liaison at swimsuits for all. It said this:

DID YOU READ THE “FOR FREE” PART?!?!

SO MUCH EXCITEMENT! I am going to Queensland this week, and it will be warm, and we'll be going to Magnetic Island, so: BIKINI TIME!

But then, my package arrived and... devastation! It only had the bottoms in it!! (Which, by the way, are AMAZING – here's a peek...)

So I emailed the company again to tell them how disappointed I was (again), and I got this back:

To which I replied and thanked them so much for the kind gesture, but since it's coming from the US, I will be gone and back before it even gets back into the country. To which Samantha very promptly replied with this:

So, all in all, they are strangely incompetent, but are delightfully wonderful in attempting to make ammends. Provided I get the new bikini (which I believe I will), I wouldn't be hesitant in ordering from this company again, or to recommend it. The only thing I would suggest is, don't try and order on a short time frame for a special occasion.

Other exciting things that are happening at the moment:

• I ended up going to the Hey Fatty market on the weekend before last, and I met the 2 WONDERFUL LADIES who run it! They are total babes, and they gave me a free pair of their undies, which I am sporting wildly here!

  I also got 2 ADORABLE vintage dresses! I was going to photograph them, but I want to wait till I do an OOTD with them so they get the time and accessorising effort they deserve.

• Speaking of OOTD, I decided to just DO IT. I did. I did it today. I rushed out the door to meet my friend for breakfast, so I have no makeup on or anything, but when I got home, all full of bacon and feeling motivated by a couple of coffees, I just set my tripod up and took a couple of snaps on my shitty camera.

• I finally hauled ass to IKEA and got a couple of large frames for my STUNNING Hilda prints! I need to get some black matting to put behind them, but here's the one that's hanging above my bed:

These prints are actually vintage calendar pages from the 1970's. A company called Brown & Bigelow used her as their mascot, and I think their tag line is pretty cute:

This is part of a thing i'm slowly doing, to make my room a really wonderful place to be - a true sanctuary, so I can be surrounded by stuff that makes me happy and inspires me. Stay tuned for a few more things! 

• A have finally enrolled in A Beautiful Mess's BLOG DESIGN ECOURSE! I'm only on the first lesson, and i'm trying not to skim ahead because I really want to absorb it all properly, but it seems so great. BIG THINGS COMING!

• Lastly, I arrived home from breakfast to a package from Amazon, of 2 books that I ordered a while ago and had forgotten about! I forget where I read about them (I think it was probably that babe The Nearsighted Owl: http://www.nearsightedowl.com/), but I knew immediately that I wanted to devour them, so I popped on over to Amazon and purchased them. So excited to read, will review asap!

• Lastly, I'm going to QLD tomorrow for one of my best friend's birthdays. I'm sure it will be a great time, but especially excited to give her her birthday present. It's so rad, I wanted to keep it. But I won't. Here it is:
