Sexy Circus Moth Madam (feat. Candy Strike)

Spotlight on the Death Moth Skater Skirt by Candy Strike. The second in a series of 3 blog posts on HorrorKitschBitch.com, featuring this skirt and it's matching crop top in 3 different outfits!

HELLO AND WELCOME TO LOOK NUMBER THREE FROM MY SERIES OF POSTS FEATURING THE CANDY STRIKE 2 PIECE DEATH MOTH OUTFIT (and pieces thereof)!

In case you missed it; look #1 (both pieces together) can be found here, and look #2 (featuring the skater skirt) can be found here

I honestly don't know what my inspiration for this look was (I cannot confirm whether it was, indeed, a "Circus Moth Madam" - O_o) but one thing is for sure: I felt sexy as fuck in this outfit. What exactly is it about a laser cut pencil skirt and a bare midriff that makes me want to gyrate on the nearest ringleader and/or person in top hat. Oh, it might be this marvellous tails jacket... hehe!

On the topic: what a fortuitous week to be rocking a crop top! Oprah Magazine can suck a fat one, cos this outfit would be collecting a lotta dust in the back of my cupboard if I was waiting for the day I had me a flat belly! Dumplings are way too delicious.

This crop top is available from Candy Strike, and if moths aren't quite your thing - check out the rest of the tops (and skirts, and dresses, oh my!!) in the Beautiful Creatures collection. I have a feeling something from the Switchblade Sister print might be next on my hit-list...  The presale is on RIGHT NOW! Run, don't walk, to your nearest internet machine.

Do you possess any of your own Candy Strike pieces? Link me, please!

Take Me to Your Disco Moth Queen (feat. Candy Strike)

Spotlight on the Death Moth Skater Skirt by Candy Strike. The second in a series of 3 blog posts on HorrorKitschBitch.com, featuring this skirt and it's matching crop top in 3 different outfits!

LOOK NUMBER TWO!

Ok so no word of a lie, this skirt makes me want to TWIRL! As you can SEE! It's a super light and super soft fabric, and I just LOVE to feel the swoosh of air. I've also doubled down the elastic waist-band because the width looked kind of funny on my shape - but that's the beauty of an elastic waist! Manipulate to your will!

I know a lot of bloggers who show different ways to wear different ways tend to have a "day to night" focus. I don't really know how to do that because I often wear the same things at night as I would during the day (read: I like getting dressed up alllll the time, not just when the sun goes down! >.<), but if I had to: I would say this look is closest to my "evening" look. I guess cos sequins?

Anyways, this top is actually a super short body con dress (you can catch a glimpse of the dress bottom in the top photo - just) that I got off eBay a number of years ago as part of a cosplay I was doing, and i've literally never worn it since. Mostly because i've been (and am still slightly) terrified of body cons. But you know what? I think it might almost be time to work that puppy into my regular wardrobe. What say you? I mentioned sequins, right?

The bow is from Sweet As Candy Vintage, and I simply adore her stuff. I also wore this bow last year when my band performed at Tess Munster's Melbourne Meet & Greet (coincidentally - also in the Candy Strike "Thick Chick" Crop!), and she created my beautiful flower crown that you've probably seen here and here. If you like statement headwear, you should definitely check out her stuff!

If you missed look number one (both pieces together), remember to check it out! And stay tuned for the finale instalment on Wednesday, with a feature on the crop top! x

Death Moth Double Trouble (feat. Candy Strike)

Death Moth Crop Top and Skater Skirt by Candy Strike. The first in a series of 3 blog posts on HorrorKitschBitch.com, featuring these 2 pieces in 3 different outfits!
It’s not a secret… I have a HUGE crush on Elizabeth Denneau; the creative genius behind indie fashion label Candy Strike. I crush on her in just about every way a person can be crushed on; personality, talent, style, and looks. She has got it going on in alllll the ways! Like take for example this quote that i’m stealing from her “About Me” page:

“I believe in fearless fashion, in smirks, in unapologetic displays of style, in happy-sassy girls strutting their stuff causing mischief and fun where they go. I believe in being nice, but fierce. I believe in owning your presence through fashion. If you wear my designs you have to own your presence - and baby, it’s beautiful!”
- Elizabeth

Can I just say?...

Mama Ru fist pumping says it better than I ever could.

Hailing from Arizona (or as she so ADORABLY puts it; “the land of cactus and dust devils”), she’s a total fashion rebel who channels her wicked style and mischievous attitude into all of her clothes (which, by the way, are available in straight to plus sizes). I first came across her stuff a couple of years ago via Jes Baker of The Militant Baker, and I was instantly in lust with her work. I purchased a couple of tops from her: the “Thick Chick” crop, and the “Beat it Creep” full length - because anybody who loves Cry Baby and John Waters as much as I do is an instant fashion friend. The quality of her clothes is unreal - both tops have withheld many a wear and wash without fading or stretching, and you can legit feel the love in every item.

So as you can imagine, I was so flipping honoured and delighted when Elizabeth asked me (ME?!) if i’d like to preview a couple of pieces from her new collection!! “Ummm YES PLEASE!” She so very kindly gifted me this 2 piece “Death Moth” outfit, and I had SO MUCH FUN playing dress ups with it that i’ve decided to do a… *dun dun dun*… THREE PART POST!

That’s right, hold on to the handrail, grandma! I have decided to do a 3 part post to show how i’ve styled this outfit wearing both pieces together (this post), and then separately! I’ve never done this before and those asshole voices in my head are being quite negative about it all, but fuck it i’ma do it anyway. If you get bored and flick back to netflix, I totally don’t even blame you. I just got it and it’s changed my life. For reals. As in, I now don’t have a life.

I've seen a few other blogger babes also preview pieces from the collection, and it's made me nervous and excited to be showing a Southern Hemisphere interpretation! The day I took these photos it wasn't too cold, so I didn't wear any tights. Plus, you know - flaunt them neon winter gams! I'm totally loving the retro-ish vibe the turtleneck shirt underneath is giving me (thus secretarial note-taking pose above), and i'm tremendously in love with the grey of this fabric... Sometimes it shows up a bit pink, sometimes a bit purple. It's like a mood ring of the textile world!

If you don’t know of Candy Strike, you should really get on that quick smart. In fact, it’s perfect timing since her latest limited edition collection “Beautiful Creatures” is on pre-sale RIGHT NOW! But be quick! It's only til the 5th of July!

This crop top is found here, and the skirt is here - I can't wait to show you my other 2 looks (EDIT: other 2 looks can be found HERE and HERE), using the pieces separately! I will post one of Monday, and one of Wednesday. See ya'll then! xx

PS. Thanks and love to Sam for taking these photos <3

My Not-So-Secret Secret to Rocking a Crop Top (Aussie Curves)

The Aussie Curves theme this week is 'tee', and I instantly knew I wanted to wear this amazingly awesome Thick Chick crop by Candy Strike. She's one of my absolute favourite indie designers, and I can't wait to treat myself to one of her incredible swimsuits for summer!

Now, the crop top is a subject I feel passionately about. I don't consider myself any kind of croppy-goodness guru because it is still something that pushes me violently out of my comfort zone. BUT - I worked out the secret. And to be honest, I think it's a not-so-secret secret. Are you ready?..

Fake it till you make it.

Seriously, I know it sounds like the biggest pile of codswallop but I SWEAR by it. Obviously you have to get to the point of confidence where you can actually force yourself to leave the house in it, but when you do; hold your head high and put an extra wiggle in your walk, even if you're cringing inside.

If you're not quite there yet, you could start gently by wearing it around the house. Maybe let your partner or housemates see you in it? Then eventually take the dog for a walk, or wear it out for brunch. Just start doing it, and PRETEND LIKE YOU DON'T EVEN GIVE A FIG what other people are thinking, and in some amount of time (might be next month, might be next year) you actually won't. I promise.

Now like I said, i'm not being all preachy and know-it-all, i'm just sharing this tip that I discovered. When I first started seeing crop tops on incredible babes like Tess Munster and Gabi Fresh, I always managed to convince myself that it works for them but it wouldn't work for me because they (insert excuse like; "have a better proportioned body", or "don't have as visible stretch marks as me") etc etc. But the other thing that got me through that initial stage was just sheer rebelliousness and rage at the world.

The first time I wore a crop top in public, I was terrified, but more importantly I clung onto the feeling that I was giving the world a big, giant FUCK YOU and flipping it the metaphorical bird. And essentially, that's what I was doing, and that is what all fat girl's do every single time we "break a fashion rule". And I have come to LOVE that feeling so much. And I really think you will too. Give it a go? What's the WORST THING that could happen?..

SPLOOSH TUESDAY (Issue 5)

Oh my goodness it's been a while since the last...

kobi jae sploosh tuesday horror kitsch bitch fat fatty girl tattooed plus-size bbw zombie scooter club inked dimples ootd blog blogger aussie australian ootd chubby melbourne alternative fashion fatshion

I guess i've been so busy splooshing about things, I haven't had time to write about said things. So, here we go...

SUSHI CATS!

sushi cats kobi jae sploosh tuesday horror kitsch bitch fat fatty girl tattooed plus-size bbw zombie scooter club inked dimples ootd blog blogger aussie australian ootd chubby melbourne alternative fashion fatshion

When I first saw these, I thought they were just costumes for cats. But, even BETTER - according to the website nekozushi.com:

Neko-Sushi is an extremely unusual life-form consisting of a cat on top of a portion of sushi rice.
Although several references have come down to us through history from various researchers and witnesses, their existence is still shrouded in mystery and actual sightings remain rare.
There are several academics who have devoted their lives to the study of  these creatures. According to a number of these, Neko-Sushi make use of gaps in space to come to us from an alternate dimension. Beyond these “gaps” lies the world of the Neko-Sushi in which, it is recently understood, lies the true identity of the cats that dwell with us here in the human dimension.

I have one word for you: HILDA. Do you know her? If you don't, you most certainly should. I'm pretty sure she's the only legitimately plus-size pinup in history. What makes her even MOAR adorable is a) she's a ginge! And b) she's an epic klutz, full of personality and playfulness. Check her out:
hilda

The artist who created her, Duane Bryers, had the idea that he wanted to make a calendar so he contacted the largest calendar company in the US at the time – Brown & Bigelow. They went with the idea, but thought it would be shortlived. I actually own 2 pages from the calendar, and an awesomely fun detail is the tagline used; “BULGING WITH VALUE, NEVER SLIM ON SERVICE”. I'm not sure how long the calendar was in print for (there isn't even a Wikipedia page for Hilda OR Duane), but it's certain that Hilda has stood the test of time.
kobi

She really came to light when an artist and art collector named Les Toil discovered a calendar of her pictures in an antique story, and decided to create a blog dedicated to her (HERE). He calls her a “zany redheaded maiden of mayhem”, and I couldn't agree more. Sadly, Mr Bryers has now past, but there's a great interview with him HERE on the Toil Girls website.

kobi

Just as an added little sploosh, you may or may not know that one of my favourite bloggers is Jes Baker of the Militant Baker. Well, she did THIS cute little post a while ago, in which she shows us how to achieve the 'Hilda style'. CUTE!

LANA DEL RAY vs. COURTNEY LOVE This is old news, but I only just found out about it. I also don't think this is a real spat, it's just Courtney being Courtney. But still – LOLS! So a couple of years ago, Lana Del Ray performed a cover of Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box in Sydney and a week later, Courts took to twitter to give Ms Ray a very public lesson in rock history.

I hadn't heard of this George Watsky guy, but apparently he's a really successful rap artist now. According to my friend who showed me this video, he started as a poet and has received a lot of attention about having a pretty pronounced lisp.

Last, but definitely not least. Candy Strike are now making SWIMSUITS!! Sorry, that was an understatement – CUSTOM SWIMSUITS! You choose your style, you choose your print/s (of the amazing selections), you provide your measurements, you live happily ever after as the most stylish babe at the beach.

Beat It, Creep! (Aussie Curves)

Oh man, what a week! What a COUPLE of weeks! So Sam and I finished our uni course on Friday. We're going to be starting a new design course in August, so it ain't the end, but it was still a magical feeling.

To celebrate, we had a date day AND night! After handing in our last assessment, we went for a stroll along the Yarra river, and stopped in at Merrywells for burgers and cherry coke floats with vanilla vodka. If you're in Melbourne, seriously – do yourself a favour and GO THERE. It's all kinds of nom.

This jacket was getting some love on Instagram earlier in the week.
It's just a Kmart coat, with a piece of faux-fur I picked up from H&M.

I'm so super excited to FINALLY blog about this amazing shirt I got a while ago. I've wanted the time to do it justice, and also it's pretty fitting for the Aussie Curves theme of “Date Night” - I basically live by the creed “beat it, creep” when it comes to dating and smelly boys :)

Also, John Waters is my everything. This shirt makes me so happy!

I wouldn't be caught dead in a full skirt!

This is my first purchase from Candy Strike, and let me tell you – I can't wait to get more of their stuff! The quality is incredible, I LOVE the uniqueness of all her designs, and most importantly: I adore supporting independent designers. That is so important to me.

"You mean you swapped me? For a MILK MAID?"

You'll have to forigve my need to photoshop all these photos. It's just that, I love this outfit so much – it's probably my favourite right now. I wanted to go nuts and have fun with these snaps. Speaking of which, big eternal love and thanks to Sam for being such a babin' photographer.

If I was to make a gif of this, I think you could almost make out me doing my best Wanda impersonation. I was actually saying "beat it, creep" with my best, badass snarl.

So, aside from all this craziness and excitement, I've got one other doozy. If we're IG friends, you already know, but - MY BAND IS PLAYING AT TESS MUNSTER'S MELBOURNE MEET & GREET! I've kind of been worried that it's been seen as some form of nepotism, since I did organise the event. BUT I did try to get other bands to play, they just weren't able to. So - Zombie Scooter Club stepped in. I'm still waiting, but there'll possibly still be one very special guest playing after us, so you will definitely want to stick around and have a few drinks.

I'm really excited to meet a few of the lovely Aussie Curves ladies there! Please say hi!! :)

Brags, and a Fatkini, and Bye-Bye for Two Weeks!

Sadly, this might be my last blog post for a couple of weeks. I'm going back to visit my mum and to go to the Byron Bay Bluesfest (!!), and I have to tether internet through my phone and it's usually pretty crappy reception in the hills. Boooooo. I will miss my little blog-a-log! But on the plus side, (I totally just wrote plus size – ha! freudian slip), I will have sooooo many exciting things to share when I get back. AND, i'm sure i'll still be Instagramming like a fiend, so if we're not IG pals – let's make it happen! I'm HERE.

Firstly, I just wanted to brag (modestly, of course) about two things.

First one is: I just ordered some stuff from Candy Strike!! I'm very naughty, but I just CANNOT help myself. Mwa ha haaaaa.

Second one is: I am one of the Nearsighted Owl's Fat Babes! And I couldn't be more stoked with how I (we) turned out. Gomez is particularly chuffed that he got a look in, and that, in this case, the 'camera' LOST 5 pounds! What a svelte little boy :)

kobi jae horror kitsch bitch fat fatty girl tattooed plus-size bbw zombie scooter club inked dimples dreads ootd blog blogger aussie australian ootd chubby dreadlocks melbourne coloured colored rainbow
Fat Babify yourself HERE!

The last thing I wanted to share is something i've been meaning to for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Tomorrow, I will be on the beach in my fatkini, and it will be my second holiday back home in which I get a chance to wear it. The last one was over the Christmas/Summer break, and a photographer friend asked if i'd like to do a shoot in it. And that was FRICKEN scary. So I said yes. And here they are.

Please note, although some of the colours and contrast have been altered, these photos have in no other way been modified. All stretch marks, cellulite, flabs and rolls are exactly as they are in real life.

Photos by the one and only Tree Faerie.

The experience itself was all the things I expected it to be; exciting, scary, liberating, exposing. But to really top it all off, Eve (Tree Faerie) has been making a website called thetriggerwarning.com in which she interviews people about their real life experiences. So after the photo session, she asked if she could do a video interview with me. WELL, that was the scary part. The first time i've ever had to talk about all this body postivity stuff, at length, with conviction, and WITHOUT being drunk! Sheesh. Here's the video. You can see my nerves. Eve did a beautiful job, and I can't thank her enough for the experience.

Have an amazing couple of weeks, friends! xx
